Asian Floods
Since the 26th June 2007 a series of cyclones have caused severe flooding throughout the South West of Pakistan. Around 2 million people have been affected with over 300 000 being made homeless due to the flooding 14 districts have been affected with roads and buildings being totally submerged under water. The worst affected districts lie in the southwest corner of Balochistan and Sindh with official reports confirming 380 deaths and rising. The floods have also resulted in water supplies being contaminated causing the widespread appearance of various water-borne diseases.
Human Appeal Response
HAI UK are coordinating relief efforts and have allocated over £50 000 as an immediate response to this emergency. HAI Pakistan have sent emergency teams to the affected districts. They have called for the immediate need of foodstuffs blankets and tents as high priority.
