Education

At Human Appeal International we believe that education is the key to eradicating poverty. By training a deprived to community to develop internally the people will become independent.Education and training brings improvement to many aspects of a community’s development and its people. Illiteracy and lack of working skills such as farming and plumbing are very high in the developing world, which is why it is extremely difficult for people to break out of the cycle of poverty. This trend will continue for generations unless these people are given the opportunity to progress and make a positive change for good.

The overall purpose of education is to assist in developing independence by encouraging communities to ‘learn’. The purpose of knowledge is to be transformed by the very process of knowing. Human Appeal’s Education Projects cultivate independence by investing in the creation of schools, sponsorships and employment courses, in order to improve the well being of the society as a whole.

CASE STUDIES

Project name: Training course for educational psychologists to help children with difficulties and mental disabilities

Location: Khartoum, Sudan.

There are about 50,000 children with disabilities in Sudan. Every single one of them needs special education and care. Responding to this, Human Appeal International funded a course training teachers how to cope with children with special needs and attention due to their disabilities. We provided funding for 50 teachers from all over Sudan to complete the course that was being delivered at the Khartoum University in Sudan.

Project name: Primary school construction.

Location: Rawalacote, Kashmir

Cost: £20,000

The devastating October 2005 earthquake in Pakistan resulted in the tragic loss of life for thousands of young children, destroying an already weak education system.

One affected child was Mohammad Kamran who had to walk for 2 hours every day just to attend school. When Human Appeal International found out about the problems affecting this area we decided to build a brand new school for the community. The school is now operating with an Oxford University based syllabus taught in English, bringing the quality of education comparable to Western standards. This is helping many students like Muhammad to master the English language – a vital skill for the 21st century.

For added security the school has been constructed with an earthquake-proof design to comply with international standards.

Mohammad’s mother was overjoyed as she said: “Before the school was built, my children were always tired and their studies suffered as a result. Now, because of the school nearby, I can see a great improvement in their education”.
