Poem By Umaimah Adam Abdullah - Sudan
Amidst the ghosts of darkness we were our only refuge was in simple tents Hunger and ignorance we suffered Not to mention persistent illnesses Night comes and we cover ourselves with tears Then we succumb to deep sleep Dreams then come quickly And carry us to different worlds Our mother, however, stays awake Praying to the One who can feed all those in need

Suddenly, a ray of light appears, it overwhelmed all darkness and sadness It took away our garments of despair and dressed us with kindness and tenderness It changed our moans into beautiful songs And made us enjoy healthy bodies and minds

I asked a friend of mine ‘Are we still in the world of dreams?’ A tender voice answered me “No, you are at an orphanage centre I am Human Appeal So forget about poverty and hunger

May you last forever dear human appeal, Islam the religion of mercy will always to us appeal Last forever dear generous sponsors, to orphans you are kind supporters To you we send our deep gratitude After we first express it to our Lord With happiness we carry to you the glad tiding In paradise with our beloved prophet you will be abiding
