Over the past fifteen years University
students have made a valuable
contribution to the work of Human
Appeal.
There are many ways in which you as an
ISOC or a student can help us in our
fight against poverty:
1) Free ISOC Charity book
This is a booklet for ISOCS in
particular on the procedures of
raising money for charity, what to do,
future projects, and how to collect.
It is a simple 20-page booklet for any
ISOC who may want to donate to any
charity. To order a copy please email
rehan@humanappeal.org.uk or
alternatively download the
copy
here.
2) Student orphan support scheme –
download form here
Help support an orphan for just £3
a month!
This is for those people who are
unable to sponsor an orphan but want
to help with their care. Just £3 a
month can provide an orphan with basic
needs as well as helping them to
gradually break out the cycle of
poverty.
£3 a month can:
• Educate an orphan for a full month
• Reduce blindness by providing
essential vitamin A tablets for 15
orphans
• Provide safe, clean water for 3
orphans
• Provide food for an orphan for a
full month

3) One Day National Fast
The ODNF has been one of the major
successes over the past few years with
thousands of students fasting together
during the month of Ramadan to
remember those in need. This is
designed as both a fundraising event
and a dawah exercise, with many non-muslims
also taking part.
Human Appeal organised the event,
while FOSIS implemented this task
throughout the country. Last year we
raised over £50,000, which worked to
approx £1000 per university – truly an
amazing effort.
Excerpt from FOSIS Focus (Aug-Dec 2005
issue 1)
“ Proudly wearing their bright yellow
ODNF T-shirts, hundreds of non- Muslim
students fasted with their Muslim
friends to learn about Ramadan,
experience what it is like to be
deprived of food and raise money for
the less fortunate.
The event raised £6,000 in 2002, which
was quickly surpassed in 2004, by
raising in excess of £14,000. …At
least sixty-five campuses joined in on
Wednesday the 19th of October and over
£50,000 was raised for Human Appeal
International and other local
charities.
Firdaus Fuaad, the project’s campus
coordinator commented, “Since the One
Day National Fast coincided with the
Asian Earthquake, people dug deeper
into their pockets. This shows how
initiating creative projects can raise
funds for worthy causes and also
educate people about our beautiful
Deen.”
Plans are now underway to encourage
more Isocs to take part in the project
next year, and strategies are being
developed to effectively improve
campus support.
