Sounds Of Light 2013
Human Appeal held their second Sounds Of Light tour in aid of Syria , raising an incredible £3.1m. Held in 12 cities across the UK & Ireland, the fundraising concert tour in October and November was largest of its kind and saw thousands from across the country attend.
The back-to-back concerts starred multiplatinum awardwinning musician Maher Zain (Sweden), who was joined by singer-songwriter Raef (US) and the emerging talent of the UK, 16 year old Harris J. The concerts were permeated with an underlying feeling of warmth and positivity. For those few hours each evening, people of all ages seemed to forget about their worries, they smiled and felt a sense of shared community spirit. The music, of course, offered an alternative to what is often referred to as the "mainstream" – with the performers singing about peace, unity and God.
There was even comedy: copresenting with Human Appeal's Na'eem Raza was the American comedian Omar Regan, known for his appearances in films such as Rush Hour 2.
The final stop on the 12 day tour was London, a city that, by raising over £430,000 in one night, pushed the total raised for Syria above £3m.
With the money raised, Human Appeal begun work on a safe haven for Syrian orphans and widows in Aleppo, due for completion early 2014. We would like to thank everyone who came – your presence and pledges were crucial in fashioning the success of Sounds of Light 2013.
