Supporting women in Pakistan this International Women’s Day
This charity event will be raising funds for our sustainable livelihoods projects, which provide training and equipment to vulnerable people, offering them a way to support their families for years to come.
In Pakistan, we teach people to keep bees and create honey for profit, and our skill development centres have provided over 200 women with sewing machines and training so that they can support themselves.
Seventeen-year-old Fozia has lived with a disability since birth. In her small agricultural village, the quality of education and healthcare is poor.
Fozia’s father died when she was ten, with only her mother and 16-year-old brother to care for her. The family sold their belongings to pay for Fozia’s education, but, still it was not enough, and, eventually, Fozia had to leave school.
Human Appeal provided Fozia with a sewing machine, and after some training, she is now able to support her mother and brother by sewing clothes for her family and neighbours.
Despite the hardship Fozia has faced, she has high hopes for the future. “I am confident that one day I will have a shop,” she said, “and I’ll be the first woman entrepreneur of my clan.”
