Muslim Charity CEO uses Christmas Day ‘Islamic Reflection’ to highlight similarities between faiths

Muslim Charity CEO uses Christmas Day ‘Islamic Reflection’ to highlight similarities between faiths

Human Appeal CEO Dr Mohamed Ashmawey speaks about the importance of shared values as the world prepares to continue its battle against COVID-19 in 2021

Dr Mohamed Ashmawey, CEO of Manchester-based humanitarian charity Human Appeal, will be speaking during the BBC’s Islamic Reflection slot on Christmas Day. Broadcast each week, Islamic Reflection broadcasts a range of Muslim voices and perspectives from across the country, on topical and current issues like the COVID-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Looking back on a challenging year for all of us, Dr Ashmawey considers the similarities of the teachings of the Abrahamic religions, and how putting the values they preach into action is more important than ever.

In his piece, Dr Ashmawey says:

“As the CEO of a humanitarian organisation, I have seen first-hand the suffering of those who are less fortunate, those who cannot help themselves, around the world.

However, I never imagined that we would see the day when families cannot say goodbye to their loved ones in the developed world. But this day has come, and it should be a cause for reflection on the values that all the Abrahamic religions share.”

You can listen to Dr Ashmawey’s Islamic Reflection on Christmas day at 5:50am on BBC Local Radio, and on BBC Sounds for four weeks afterwards.
